A Positive Traction Class 08e Shunter will be Displayed on the Show Approach at RSN 2025
Positive Traction are using considerable rail industry experience and renewable energy expertise, to meet the challenge of lower carbon emissions by embarking on a series of projects that involve converting diesel locomotives to battery technology, with modern electronics and control systems, resulting in cleaner vehicles with vastly reduced emissions.
Lower running costs. Less maintenance. No future penalties.
Positive Traction have converted a Class 08 diesel shunting locomotive originally built in the 1950s to battery power.
The prototype has been developed by Positive Traction to offer a cost-effective and emission free alternative to diesel power for shunting and industrial applications.
Supporting the government policy to move to net zero, the locomotive provides a compelling alternative to diesel traction.
The loco features plug-in lithium-ferro-phosphate traction batteries and is rated at 450 hp, but it is designed to be scalable to meet alternative client requirements.
