To achieve the highest possible level of safety in trains, all materials and components must meet strict fire protection requirements under EN 45545-2:2013. Different areas of the train are assigned different categories, or Requirement Sets. Our Graphene Enhanced Coating Products have been subjected to tests to satisfy set R7, which covers the exterior. It should be noted that we are also approximating to the pass level for the more stringent R1 interior level.
There are three Hazard Levels (HL1 to HL3) with HL3 being the highest level. It makes the highest demands on the materials used. Blocksil Graphene Enhanced Top Coat has satisfied the requirements for HL3. The testing for EN 45545 includes spread of flame, heat release rate, smoke and toxicity.

To ensure that it was only the coating that was tested we deliberately had the coating tested on top of fibre board so the fire testing was a test of the coating itself. A higher performance may be expected on an alternative rail.
CleanProtect Nano coatings are very thin film coatings, often transparent, but with very robust pinhole free finishes that act as excellent barrier coats for corrosion prevention. Typical dry film thicknesses are 5 to 10 microns.
They are available from Blocksil for both porous and non-porous surfaces.
Nano coatings are often used for anti-graffiti and for energy saving stay clean purposes. Their ability to be cleaned with all manner of detergents, solvents and wipes makes them ideal for this type of application.
Nano coatings are usually applied by special cloth or brush, but can be sprayed if suitable PPE is worn to avoid inhaling the atomised coating.
The coatings will air cure and are usually touch dry after 20 minutes at ambient temperatures. Full cure can take up to five days but can be shortened with additional heat.

Our Therma-Light® coating is applied by spray, brush or trowel. When spraying we can advise on the equipment needed.
In addition to giving excellent thermal insulation, Therma-Light does not permit algae growth and is quick drying. It is built up wet on wet in layers to achieve the desired target thickness of 3 millimetres. Therma-LIght is an impermeable insulation coating and it will adhere permanently to steel, Aluminium, foam and many other surfaces.
Depending on the location and objectives for the coating, Therma-Light can be overcoated with a decorative paint.
Therma-Light is, as its name suggests, very lightweight. Water based with very low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) levels, it can be used across a wide range of process industries without them having to stop.
A useful by product of Therma-Light is its ability to improve local acoustic properties. Of course this depends very much on the precise location and situation in which the coating is being used. Therma-Light also acts as a barrier to heat. It will also keep cold items cold. A test with LPG, which boils at -160oC, with a container coated in 30mm of Therma-Light kept the LPG liquid. An amazing feat.
