HARTING presents the ix Industrial®, a future-proof, miniaturised solution for fast Ethernet delivery
As devices in trains such as sensors, cameras and automation equipment rapidly decrease in size, so passenger information screens are becoming thinner and flatter. It therefore stands to reason that device connectors must also decrease in size, to ensure they don’t take up too much installation space on miniaturised equipment.
The ix Industrial® is a robust Ethernet connector to replace the traditional RJ45. It has a 70% smaller PCB jack, enabling manufacturers to use it in much smaller devices, and a high current-carrying capacity that supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) applications. It is standardised to comply with IEC 61076-3-124 and conforms to the shock and vibration resistance levels set out in EN 50155 railway specifications.
Despite its compact dimensions, the ix Industrial® still produces Cat. 6A performance for 1/10Gbit/s Ethernet at a control level. In addition, it combines both data transmission and power supply into a single interface, further reducing the area required for connectors within devices. This means displays and passenger information systems on trains can be supplied with both power and data via the ix interface.
There are also no unprotected wires from the cable to the connection point, which can affect a fault-free, high frequency signal. As a result, the ix Industrial® takes care to safeguard data transmissions; thanks to its continuous 360° shield design, it guarantees a high immunity to interference, even in EMC-critical applications.
